PART 1 : LECTURE

1) find the values of x such as x²- 7x - 18 >=0

First write y = x²- 7x - 18 . Graph the equation by extracting the square. Find the x-intercepts y = 0.
Then find the values of x for which y is above the x-axis (y>0).

2) x² + 3x - 10 < 0 (from book. p. 625)

3) 5x² - 3x + 2 >=0 (from book p. 652)

4) solve (x-3) / (x+4) >= 2
First move the 2 to the left side. Put every term at the same denominator.
Find the interesting values of x that will make the numerator and the denominator equal to 0
Place these values on the number line.
Choose values of x in the 3 intervals to find which one will make the expression >=0.

5) solve 5x (x+3) (x-2 ) >=0 (from book)
